The universe of the SBF is loosely based on regular Avali lore with several key differences. The main difference is that the main environment for the roleplay isn’t on Avalon but rather on Mangilla, the capital planet of a 4 planet federation governed by the SBF. Another major difference is that the level of tech in this universe is grounded in our current understanding of science, the general rule for tech in the SBF universe is that it has to be reasonably explainable with current theories and understanding. A good example would be the concept of Sync Crystals, while the addition of fantasy materials is something that is avoided, the concept of Quantum linked materials is fully allowed as current science has already proven this to be a possibility in experimentation. So while the material itself wouldn’t exist it is fully plausible that many communication devices use a synthetic alternative.
Also relevant to this page is the history of the SBF and the Illuminate, according to the SBF lore both the Illuminate and the SBF originated from Avalon from a time when Avalon was divided in many different ruling governments, The level of tech for this time period was about the same of the current SBF time, having invented and utilized FTL technology. However this technology had a flaw which caused some ships to be left stranded on Mangilla, the Avali on Mangilla were forced to live with the locals and create their own society. While that was happening society on Avalon collapsed due to the tension between all the governing bodies, from this collapse the Illuminate got created. This is why the Illuminate and the SBF are around the same level of technology and why the Avali on Mangilla while originating from Avalon aren’t Illuminate affiliated.
Since every setting will have their own definition of what is and isn’t plausible, this section serves to narrow down the specific tech that Cynic can utilize in the SBF with realistic explanations of why this tech would exist.
Cynic’s primary abilities:
One of Cynic’s main abilities, and the ability that allows them to do what they do is their immortality, they have been around since before the SBF and Illuminate got created and thus have had the ability to influence much of their development, not in a controlling way but in a way that allows them easier access into the many infrastructures that make up both civilizations.
Cynic’s immortality in the SBF universe is done through advanced cloning techniques as well as specialized neural implants for linking their consciousness to a central management server. When they die their consciousness simply gets uploaded to a new clone and they are reborn.
Both cloning and neural interfaces are technologies that not only exist on earth, they have been successfully demonstrated during tests and experiments. While the ethicality of both techniques might be called into question, this is not something Cynic concerns themselves with.
The biggest hurdle of getting access to resources is navigating the infrastructure and resource routes to obtain the resource, Cynic has spent millennia setting up and building this infrastructure for their own use, with the universe being as big as it is there will always be a planet which can be harvested to obtain a needed resource.
Cynic has build a fully self-sustaining infrastructure network that cuts out any outside intervention by directly harvesting resources from small planets themselves, for more synthetic or complicated resources Cynic has set up automated workshops which are able to produce these resources at massive rates.
As cynic needs a lot of information to do their job sufficiently, they have spent much effort into developing their network infrastructure. They have hidden crawlers and data scrapers in almost any section of the available internet and are able to take control of many servers should they so choose. Their own servers are not connected to the internet through regular means but rather they utilize their vast network of crawlers to inspect and determine if a network request should be redirected to their servers. as such their servers don’t have a permanent footprint and are nearly impossible to track down. They also maintain a direct connection with their servers through their neural link allowing them to remotely control many of the facilities and infrastructure they have on standby.
For the SBF specifically Cell plays a slightly more important role in the story, instead of dying due to a machine accident, Cell is pulled out right before they would have gotten harmed. They are taken away and stories of their death through an accident are fabricated. Cell is captured and used for experimentation with brain preservation through digitalization of the mind. Cell is held captive for many millennia as they are now being kept alive in a digital prison. Around when Cynic becomes involved in the SBF, Cell’s mind is put in a cloned body and released on Mangilla.
The goal of this plotline is to explore pack loss, since Cynic’s story has always been lacking in that part. They have had millennia to come to terms with the loss of Cell but if they were suddenly reunited with them what emotional distress would that cause?
